In 2023, there are only 22 Highly Cited Researchers in New Zealand and only one at AUT. Each researcher selected has authored multiple Highly Cited Papers™ which rank in the top 1% by citations for their field(s) and publication year in the Web of Science™ over the past decade. However, citation activity is not the sole selection indicator. A preliminary list based on citation activity is then refined using qualitative analysis and expert judgement.

Of the world’s population of scientists and social scientists, Highly Cited Researchers™ are 1 in 1,000.

Valery Feigin is a co-chair of a WSO Lancet Neurology Commission on global stroke. In this report, entitled Pragmatic solutions to reduce the global burden of stroke: a World Stroke Organization– Lancet Neurology Commission, the World Stroke Organization draws up its roadmap to tackle the burden of stroke by 2030 and beyond, in line with the UN Sustainable Development Goal on health and wellbeing.

Brain Impairment, 22(1), 20-33 has been awarded the 2022 Douglas and Tate prize for the Best Research paper published in Brain Impairment in the year 2021.

Valery Feigin was one of the 29 winners of the WHO (World Health Organization) Innovation Challenge for the work entitled “Digital solutions for primary stroke and CVD prevention”. It was selected from over 400 applications entered. It reflects his work on the Stroke Riskometer app for lay people and the PreventS-MD webapp for health professionals that are being offered for implementation across the globe.

Valery Feigin co-led a landmark publication on primary stroke prevention. It is the first review of primary stroke prevention strategies across the globe that provides actionable plans and strategies and monitoring tools for all major stroke stakeholders, including health care policy makers, to radically reduce stroke burden across countries of all levels of economic development.
